5 years ago Brad moved down to the Bellarine from Melbourne’s North with his wife and kids to get away from the rush. He loves it here yet he noticed Geelong has a rush of it’s own and a market that was being unserved in the takeaway arena. So he’s brought a touch of Northcote style to James Street with Huckster and Co Geelong.
Huckster and Co Geelong is a simple concept. You’re in the CBD running low on energy and stop in. They fill you back up with scrumptious sourdough, brioche and coffee. It’s a classy pitstop for the modern information worker who has little time to waste and high expectations on what they feed themselves.
Renovation of the shop was something Brad was keen to take on himself, using local tradesman and electricians where he was out of his depth. Tiling is something only the brave take on and there are many casualties along the way however he’s nailed it with striking dark green tiles sourced from Tile Junket Geelong. Brad achieved straight lines watching YouTube but a quality finish with patiences.
The idea for a bar at the front that can be opened up and have people hanging out on both sides is novel. At the time of writing it’s still too early to test it out as the business opened heading into a classic cold Geelong winter. At least you can warm up with a good coffee though. Brad knows how to get the best from his machine. You’ll find Allpress Espresso at Huckster and Co Geelong, a tried and tested favourite that runs at a few other cafes around town.
A perfectly aligned row of sourdough and brioche greets you at the counter, freshly made and ready to be grabbed on the go. You can eat in as well but space is limited. Next time you’re in James Street it’s definitely worth stopping past to have a look.
