On a cold morning in Geelong the first two words that spring to mind when you set foot into Cafe Go are likely to be cozy and warm, although we’d also accept welcoming and homely.
Housed on the corner of Bellarine & Lt Malop Street in an original weatherboard dwelling, the cafe stays true to it’s roots with a central fireplace throwing off lifesaving warmth, and a cute hidden garden out the back. Its a refuge from the reality that you’re probably in the CBD to do something mundane like work… or shop… or visit Barwon Health Hospital which is only half a block away.
Above the fireplace are the kind of trinkets you’d expect to see on your well travelled Aunty’s mantle. The tainted brass vase she picked up from a market in Egypt in the 60s. Next to that a hand-crafted duck head forged on the shores of the Mediterranean sea. You know, that Aunty.
Sprinkled around the windows are various cacti and out the back you’ll find a gorgeous garden that’s well protected from the elements. There are subtle touches that really add to the unique Cafe Go Geelong experience. Take the walls, which are draped in mirrors and local artwork. Or our favourite touch, the eclectic mix of soft toys used for table numbers.
Cafe Go Geelong is a well-established favorite in Geelong with consistent medium-bodied coffee and plenty of opportunities for a solid meal.
From a range of substancial all-day brekky options to wraps, sandwiches and various salads there’ll definitely be something here to fill you up.
If you’re looking for something a bit different look out for the specials menu. On previous visits the currys and Vietnamese chicken dishes have been a real treat.
Riding here? Amazing street side bike parking was recently installed out front on Bellarine street. Enjoy!
