The first time you hear the name Geelong West Social Club it might provoke images of a member’s only building with boarded up windows. Inside you might see a dimly lit room with old men playing cards. That image couldn’t be more off the mark.
Ross McDonald and his wife Mia have completely gutted out and refitted a little spot in Yuille Street off Pakington Street to create one of Geelong West’s newest and funkiest cafes.
Even though it’s right near the main strip, being just slightly away from it gives it a different vibe. With a wide glass front window and a gorgeously crafted Tasmanian Oak main bar to complement the tables, the Geelong West Social Club is a spacious cafe that radiates good vibes as people mingle and chat happily and kids run around freely.
Serving Supreme coffee from a matte black La Marzocco machine, Ross brews beans from the company he’s roasted for over the last 3 years. This means he knows his stuff and how to get the best tasting coffee.
If you’re a long black drinker, you’ll get the Five star day blend and if you’re more a latte or cappuccino drinker then it’s the Supreme blend for you. Water with your coffee? There’s chilled still and sparkling water on tap.
For those sporting a pram, you’re covered. Geelong West social club has been designed to be easy for parents to get in and out of, with a wide walk way separating the bar from the tables.
As well as coffee there are plenty of simple snacks and treats to choose from such as muffins, slices and lamingtons. The Geelong West Social Club is open 6 days per week, Monday through Saturday. Scroll past the photos for more details and rating.
