Jamie, Jerry and John believe in equality. The right of every man, woman and child in Geelong to have access to high quality specialty coffee (OK maybe not the kids) and incredible burgers, no matter where they happen to be shopping. It’s that driving force that inspired them to open Launch Espresso and Kitchen Geelong.
Located on the bridge at Westfield Geelong, they’ve realised something that the other cafes might not have cottoned onto just yet. The fact that someone who shops at a chain store for homewares and food doesn’t necessarily want chain store style coffee.
With that in mind they set out to create a bespoke atmosphere that’s as attractive as any of the other hidden cafes around the CBD, but just happens to be housed inside Geelong’s main shopping centre. Good plan. It’s a great location and the food and drinks speak for themselves.
Think about it. It’s been a 3 1/2 hour slog dragging the kids around to get them some new clothes at Big W, you’ve grabbed the weekly shop at Coles and cut some keys at Mister Minit. After all that you just need a break but until Launch Espresso and Kitchen Geelong came along, Westfield was a bit of a coffee desert, and admittantly there was some good food, but not like this.
It’s really refreshing to be able to drop the kids at the play area and then pull up a chair on the bridge and order a drip filter Axil Coffee, a killer burger and an Elmo cupcake.
All that comes with one of the best views of the bay that a cafe can offer. The walls are lined with the sides of a shipping container and the area has been fitted out with some beautiful lightly stained hardwood. It’s a cool refuge from the rush of Westfield!
