Sticks and Grace Geelong has been in the game for a good innings, recently hitting a decade on Pakington Street Newtown. To last that long you have to be doing one or two things right.
One of those things would have to be their generous all day breakfast. Some joints use big plates for effect but there’s no substance. In the case of Sticks and Grace Geelong, substance matters as much as presentation.
Nathan Lightfoot has a background in hospitality and has owned Sticks and Grace Geelong for a few years now. He’s lead the change in the menu believing that quality ingredients and great value should be at the core of the cafe experience. It’s paying off with a nomination for the 2015 Golden Plate Awards.
Lightfoot is as passionate about good food as he is about good coffee. Running Allpress beans on a bright yellow LaMarzocco machine, every stop past is a consistent. We love the scrunch mugs that the hot chocolates come in!
Inside you’ll love the spacious tables and padded bench seats with cushions along the walls. Outside is a treat when the weather’s putting on a show. The whole side of Sticks and Grace Geelong is covered in a creeper which is particularly beautiful in Summer when it’s green… and maybe not so great in Spring if you suffer hay-fever. That said, there aren’t many alfresco areas that are great when you’re allergic.
Overall Sticks and Grace Geelong is a well rounded family/pram friendly cafe with a great regular menu and a good number of daily specials to keep things interesting. The drink selection extends to local beers, ciders and wines. You can also hire the space at night for functions.
